Nigeria Customs Service Seizes Expired Rice

The Nigeria Customs Service Tin-Can  Island Ports has showcased the seizures made by the Command in the light of the land border closure.

The seized items include 33 containers of rice, 1 container of rice concealed with spare parts, 11 containers of unregistered pharmaceutical products, 2 containers of used tyres, 1 container of clothing and 4 containers of refined vegetable oil in retail packs.

The total number of containers is 54 comprising 15*40ft and 39*20ft containers with a Duty Paid Value (DPV) of two billion, seven hundred and thirteen million, eight hundred and sixty five thousand, fifty one (N2,713,865,051) naira.

The Comptroller General of Customs Col. Hameed Ali (rtd)  expressed satisfaction at the achievements of the Command. In his words:

“One of the significant findings about this seizure is that all the rice is expired  or about to expire,” he said.
