Armed Pirates Attack Indonesian Vessel

Five pirates armed with knives boarded an oil tanker, identified as GP T2, on Monday, October 30 while it was underway in the Singapore Strait, at approximately 6.5 nm North East of Terumbu Betata, Batam Island, Indonesia.
The perpetrators tied up the duty oiler in the engine room, took away some engine spare parts and escaped in a small boat. The small boat was seen moving towards the southerly direction, according to the information provided by the piracy watchdog ReCAAP.
“The master raised the alarm and conducted a security search on board the ship. No other perpetrators were found. The crew was not injured and the ship is proceeding towards the next port of call in China,” ReCAAP’s Information Sharing Centre (ICS) informed.
The Aframax tanker, built in 1997, is part of Gulf Petrochem FZC’s fleet. Based on the ship’s latest AIS data, it is underway using engine bound for Nansha, China.

…As NNPC Declares Commitment to Growing Nigeria’s Reserves, Revenue Generation The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) has declared its commitment to growing the nation’s crude oil reserves and increasing daily national production with a view to boosting the nation’s revenue generation.
Group Managing Director of the Corporation, Dr. Maikanti Kacalla Baru stated this during the flag-off ceremonies of the NNPC/First E&P Oil Mining Leases (OMLs) 83/85 partnership for marine seismic data acquisition vessel in Lagos, recently.
Dr. Baru, who performed the flag-off ceremony aboard Marine Vessel BGP Prospector offshore Lagos, said the project would boost NNPC’s drive towards enhancing the nation’s abundant hydrocarbon deposits.
The development, Baru added, also reinforced the Federal Government’s commitment to further harness Nigeria’s numerous resources to enhance income streams and ultimately boost the nation’s economic prosperity.
