NNPC Confirms 7 River Basins To Receive Exploratory Activities

As part of efforts to increase exploratory activities in 7 river basins in Nigeria the Nigeria National Petroleum  Corporation (NNPC) has opened modalities to invite prospective investors.

Making this known at the NNPC Towers Abuja the Group Managing Director Dr. Maikanti Baru while receiving the Yobe State Governor Mr. Ibrahim Geidam said preliminary exploratory activities had indicated some signs of hydrocarbon in eastern Yobe of the Chad basin .

Dr. Bari revealed that exploratory activities executed in Benue Trough in the 1990s indicated the presence of hydrocarbons. Attempts made under Production Sharing Contract arrangements had involved Shell, Chevron and Agip who had drilled a well each in the region.

"We are on target and are looking forward at the prospectivity of the whole basins of Niger Delta, Chad, Anambra, Benue Trough, Benin, Sokoto and Bida. We are focused on delivery on these basins in line with our mandate," Dr. Baru disclosed.
